Today, it is an indispensable instrument in various musical situations and styles, including jazz, pop, wind, and chamber music. The six basic instruments in the saxophone family range from the sopranino to the bass, but in recent years both the high and low ends have expanded with the addition of the soprillo and the tubax, respectively. As a result, there is a veritable orchestra of saxophones. \n　The reason why I have composed this work is because I have felt that there was little number of such music, though audience liked the sound of large saxophone ensemble. In my composition Toki wo Koete, I have set to music the nostalgic scenery and feelings I had while living in France around 1980 that float to the surface like revolving lanterns. The piece is scored for a large saxophone ensemble.
