The land-grant colleges were founded in all the states on the land grant of the federal government under the Morrill Act of 1862, and furthermore have received federal aid in the form of money grant for their research and instruction activities and extension work through a series of enactments, such as Hatch Act (1887), Second Morrill Act (1890), Smith-Lever Act (1914), and Bankhead-Jones Act (1935).  This thesis deals mainly with the complications of these federal aid enactments and the correlative development of land-grant colleges.
