首都圏を中心とした市場で調査した中間宿主の感染状況と調査を通じて新たに見つかった肺吸虫種の形態学的特徴および系統について述べた。ラオスは1975年から1988年まで鎖国をしており，1970年代前半まで知られていた肺吸虫症の起因種はParagonimusheterotremus のみであった。しかし，2012年以降Institut de la Francophone pour la Medecine Tropicale（IFMTと我々の調査からVientiane 県Hinheub（ヒンヘウブ）郡で採取した中間宿主である２種のカニPotamon lipkeiとChulathelphusa brandti を特定した。そして，P. lipkei 10匹から採取したメタセルカリア782個を実験動物に感染させ成虫を得た。その結果，形態的に同定したP. bangkokuensis およびP. harinasutai の２種に加えて，P.paishuihoensis が新たに確認された。また，C. brandti の17検体から１個のP. westermani のメタセルカリアが観察され，同国では肺吸虫が５種分布することが明らかとなった。またP. westermani を除く新たに得られた４種について，遺伝学的マーカーとしてinternal transcribed spacer 2（ ITS2）と cytochrome oxidase subunit 1（CO1）の二つを用いて解析した結果，P. bangkokensis およびP. harinasutai，P. paishuihoensis の３種が近縁であることが示された。また，これまでの患者調査からこれらの４種間でラオスにおける肺吸虫症の病原として重要な種はP. heterotoremus であることが判明した　ビエンチャン首都圏およびラオス国内の市場で調査した中間宿主となりうるカニEsathelphusa spp. とPilosamon palustre のほとんどは水田で捕獲されている。これらの394匹のサンプル調査ではParagonimus
