The purpose of this study is to clarify the theory of ‘Jiriittchi（事理一致）’ found in Budō Denshō （the Books of Martial arts）in the Early Edo period. It is said that the theory of ‘Jiriittchi’ found in Bud ō Densh ō is an abstruct and difficult concept. However, the theory of ‘Jiri（事理）’ is important concept in interpreting Martial arts thought and Budō Denshō . Commonly ‘Jiriittchi’ is used as a word that the practice and way is united like a wheel. And it is used as a word as body-mind connection or interact. But the concept of ‘Jiriittchi’ found in Budō Denshō is beyond common opinion. The theory of ‘Jiri’ is introduced by Zen master Takuan Sōhō of Rinzai school. The Mysteries of the Unmoved Prajñā (Fudōchishinmyōroku), in which Takuan interprete military arts with Zen relation is sent to Yagyū Munenori. It makes a sublimation from Military arts to Martial arts. One of the central thought of the Mysteries of the Unmoved Prajñā is the theory of ‘Jiriittchi’.
I took note of ‘Kegonshu thought（華厳宗思想）’ to reinterpret the theory of ‘Jiriittchi’. The cause is that the theory of ‘Jiri’ is introduced by Zen master Takuan of Rinzai school and essentially ‘Jiri’ is a term to represent ‘Kegonshu Thought. As a result, ‘Jiriittchi’ has been preached as concept getting rid of obsession in ‘Ji（事）’ or ‘Ri（理）’ as well as body-mind connection or interact. That is, ‘Jiriittchi（事理一致）’ is a concept raising alarm about sport for winning and arousing that Budō is ‘a path to self-perfection’. |
