内容記述 | During the Edo Period the women who belonged to the social classes of farmer, artisan and merchant were educated in basic reading, writing, arithmetic and other skills depending on their financial conditions as the Japanese economy in commodity market was developed, as the writer described in the earlier paper. It is very interesting that people in this period also valued the teaching of a mental attitude and an attitude in living one should keep in his/her mind, that is to say, the teaching of one's internality to straight up and lead a good life at his/her home and working place and also in the society, like in the saying "Whether a person can be good or bad is simply a matter of his/her early age education." Of course, however, it must not be really true for us to say that the mental structure and the way that human nature should be that the people expected in the Edo Period or before that time can be understood by modern people. Even so, there are a number of points which we can refer to and use for our self-reflection. Many farmers, both husbands and wives together, worked for their heavy farming duties from dawn till twilight time, and many townsmen did their best in their vocations having lessons of "There is no worth as a person without having gold and silver" and "First understand the dignity of being a merchant or an artisan, then straighten yourself up." Of course, there must be bad farmers and townsmen, but we should have our respect to our ancestors who made great efforts, valued a sense of duty and did their best to accomplish their duties. We also should keep these good aspects of our tradition in our society forever. | |||||||||
