Before the computer classes started at a women's junior college, a survey was conducted to know how much knowledge and what kind of concept the students had about the computer. The survey was also purported to use the results of the survey for future computer education. As the results of the survey we found that all students had a lot of knowledge about the computer, but there are differences in their concept about the computer depending on their majors. Also the conceptual differences were found between the students who enrolled the computer course and the students who didn't. The students who enrolled the computer course and also are in the Department of Clothing and in the Department of Food and Nutrition had fairly detailed concept about the computer. However, the students who didn't enroll the computer course and are also in the Department of Music and in the Department of Early Childhood Education didn't have detailed concepts about the computer. From the survey, it is possible to say that the students who are likely to get a regular office work job, especially a secretarial position or a job which needs secretarial knowledge, tended to have a detailed concept about the computer. But, of course, there is a possibility that the conceptual differences in the results of the survey depended on individuals. As the conclusion of this study, to provide computer courses which are specified for students' majors and their preferences, not a standerdized computer course, could be necessary for the future computer education to achieve a good result in its education. |
