内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In 1976, we made a questionaire survey on the attitudes of pregnant women and nursing mothers toward customs, vulgar beliefs and superstitions about pregnancy and child birth. The present paper reports on the national tendencies. For our research procedure, see Researches on Pregnant Women and Nursing Mothers (1), Bulletin of the Hiroshima Bunka Women's Junior College Vo1.l5, (1982). 1. Those questionees who "prayed to God for easy delivery" were 51.1 % and those who "did not pray" were 45.4%. No answer was obtained from the rest (3.5%). 2. Of those who "prayed," 38.0% offered a prayer in the fifth month of pregnancy and 64.4% were found to have prayed between the third and the fifth months. This is perhaps because they found their own pregnacny about this time. Those who offered a prayer between the sixth and the tenth months were 26. 4%. The number decreased as the months advanced. 3. A great majority (83.5%) went to offer a prayer with their husband, parents, uncles, aunts, elder or younger sisters. Those who went alone were 11.1%. 4. Those who "got an amulet" were 65.1% and? those who "did not get" were 27.1%. 5. Those who had their amulet brought from the shrine by "their parents" were 44.0%, then "by themselves" and "by their husband." The rest were by their uncles, aunts, sisters or friends. 6. 44.0% kept the amulet about their person and 29.4% offered it on the household altar. 7. Those who "minded" superstitions were 63.1% and those who "did not mind" them were 34.1%. 8. More than 90% believed in such vulgar sayings as "The first belly-band should be worn on the Day of the Dog" and "You can expect a baby boy if the mother has strong features." More than 80% believed in "The baby will be born with a mark on it if the mother meets a fire during her pregnancy" and "You can expect a baby boy if the mother has a protruded belly."
