Exchange rate behavior is very important today，and here we focus on the real exchange rate. There are some theories of its determination，and we would like to know which theory is the best. We introduce three theories and discuss their advantages and limitations. Our conclusions are as follows : Each theory focuses on different things considered to be important elements of real exchange rate determination. The first one focuses on capital flow，the second one focuses on structural variables，and the third one focuses on productivity differential. The first theory contains a limitation，in that it has an unrealistic assumption that commodity prices are perfectly flexible. The second is ambiguous with regard to structural variables. The third is useful，because it may be statistically valid. |
